Ecstatic Cole Announces Barry Arrival

Aston Villa defender top class signing: manager

Dinamo Zagreb manager Jatex Cole unveiled his first major signing of the season today afternoon when former Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry was shown around Maksimir. Barry has been one of Villa's most consistent performers in the past few seasons, and the move is seen as a coup of sorts for Cole.

It was reported that the club's representatives had been in talks with Villa till the wee hours of the morning before a deal was finally struck. Barry claimed that he was 'pleased to be in Croatia, the weather's nice, the food's great and the scenery is better than I expected.' The assembled journalists laughed at what was obviously an attempt at a joke as a jet-lagged Barry grinned bemusedly at the sudden downpour outside the grounds of the stadium. The 28 year old Englishman is set to slot straight into a defence that conceded but a measly 7 goals the whole of last season and fans are optimistic that survival is more than a possibility if the manager continues in the right path.

As part of the deal, Australian midfielder Tim Cahill and Polish international defender Marek Kotas were signed by Villa as new manager Jay Duthie looked to youth as an answer to keeping his team in Division 3.

Cole claimed that a few more signings were still possible, and talks were ongoing with certain clubs. "We'll let you know when we've got out man," were his parting words.
