Zagreb sign Norwegian striker Asbjørnsen

Good stuff, manager declares

Zagreb manager Jatex Cole announced that the club had signed long time target Trond Erik Asbjørnsen from Brann yesterday. The 26 year old striker was immediately loaned back to Brann, thereby "saving us from buying a plane ticket" according to a grinning Cole as he reveled in his coup.

As part of the trade, Joonas Siikala's loan move to Brann was made permanent while Chinese midfielder Huo Zhiyu and veteran South African international Elrio van Heerden also switched clubs. An undisclosed fee was also paid to Zagreb to complete the deal.

The move casts further doubt on star striker Ruslan Kostishin's future at the Croatian club. The Ukranian international has been dropped from the starting lineup for the past few matches after being one of the indispensible first-team players previously. With fellow striker Lee Song in good form, it is unlikely that Kostishin will manage to break into the first team again. Where he goes at the end of the season remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, defender Roy Keane looks to be on his way out of the club. The Irish centre-back has 4 international caps and has reportedly held contract talks with fc Skonto Riga. He is believed to be available for a price in the region of £30m. Skonto Riga, however, is thought to have tabled a significantly lower bid.
